Story

This is my tribute song for Nelson Mandela, who was imprisoned at Robben Island for 18 of his 27 years in jail. I truly believe his kindness, faith in humanity and immense love for his country enabled South Africa to transition peacefully from an apartheid era, and to begin the process of healing and rebuilding.

Story

Here's a song I wrote with my mom and dad in mind.  I think losing a child is one of the hardest things any human ever has to bare. My parents lost three children. I used to think my older brother, Jonathan, was the little boy fishing on the crescent moon (that I still sometimes see at the beginning of movies). He looked just like that. Angelic. Content. My parents get up every day, breathe in and out, and continue to love life and spread joy. Their courage has made me who I am, and they give me daily perspective. Life is such a precious gift, not to be wasted. And I am reminded to tell those I love just how much I love them...all the time...and to always try to be kind...to everyone. You just never know where someone is coming from, or what their story is.

I guess this song it to all the parents who've had to say goodbye too soon...or to anyone who's ever lost anyone they love for that matter.

Story

I wrote this song for Steve after dating him for just a few weeks. I sang it at a friend's wedding a few weeks after that...I told Steve it was about him right before getting up to sing, and I figured he would either say he loved me back, or he would run...

Story

My beautiful Aunt Viv died in South Africa over the summer, the day I left for Nashville. My uncle Pete is always on my mind, as he moves on without his beloved best friend. My college friend, Maggie, also lost her husband very suddenly around the same time. I wrote this song for Pete and Maggie.

Story

I was in a restaurant in the city a couple of years ago, and I noticed this antique black and white picture on the wall in the hallway. This beautiful woman had flowers in her hair, and she looked so sad and lost. I felt like she was looking straight at me, and I wanted to tell her it would be ok. Or perhaps it was her telling me we would be okay.

I recorded this with my (then) seven year olds joining in on the chorus. That was an awesome day in the studio:)
